About Mike

Mike was born in York but lived in Manchester for many years.  His dad was interested in carving and Mike interested in wildlife so it wasn't a surprise that Mike should put these two skills together.  He carved his first bird when he was eleven but didn't turn professional until 1986.  Shortly after this he moved to Cornwall with his wife Kath where he has been carving birds ever since.

He has had work exhibited at many galleries all around the word including New York.  He currently supplies work to Southern Gallery at Dobwalls and Waterside Gallery in St Mawes, Cornwall.  Most of his work is done on commission though he also sells carvings at shows around the country.  Each year he attends the Bird Fair at Rutland and the BDWCA Carving Competition at Bakewell.

Mike regularly wins awards for his work.  In 2010 at Bakewell he won 'Best Bird of Prey' for his carving of a peregrine falcon a bird which was also awarded 'visitor's choice' and 'carver's choice'!
